C. J. Ward
About the Author
Colton Ward is a teller of stories, organizational and otherworldly alike. A marketer and entrepreneur based in Minnesota, he’s been known to retreat from his professional life to explore his creative pursuits.
Whether it be writing his budding fantasy novel, shooting his latest photography or film project, or simply investigating his life experience through poetry, his passion is capturing stories—in all their forms—and releasing them for his audience to enjoy.
Writing is the ultimate way to invest in someone else’s joy. When I create a world for others to get lost in, I’m content in giving up a bit of the fleeting time I have in this world to create something timeless to be experienced.
Along the way, I get to explore a little piece of myself in an art form I love and share what I find with those who love to read.
Why I Write
Hi, My Name is Colton Ward
I believe storytelling has been the core of who I am from early on in my life. I still remember being fascinated by the first book series I read as a child (Guardians of Ga'Hoole by Kathryn Lasky!). The power the storytelling art form has to transport someone into an entirely different world had me completely enamored, even way back then.
From that moment on, I knew I wanted to wield that power. I wanted to write and tell stories that could captivate people just like I had been.
Every chance my childhood schooling gave me to write and tell stories, I took. Soon, I discovered the art of videography as a new from of telling stories, and I grasped onto that too. Then photography came on after.
I learned quickly there are many forms within which stories can be captured and released for others to enjoy—ways to weave a tale that transports the audience somewhere new. Somewhere breathtaking.
My career quickly directed me to the field of marketing, where my mission is to help companies tell their own stories and build delightful experiences for their audiences (Hence being a teller of stories both otherworldly and organizational).
And finally—after dreaming of it from the moment I discovered my first fantasy novel—I’ve begun writing my own epic fantasy. A novel I’ve come to call “The Spark’s Listener”.
Learning to write a novel has been an incredibly rewarding, yet challenging process. There are days where I believe I have written the greatest lines that have ever been written. There are many more days where I believe I have written the sorriest excuse for literature to have ever disgraced the earth.
But all the while, I’ve been writing.
I’ve been telling a story—building a world—for myself to get lost in, and hopefully for others to experience as well. I invite you to join me on this storytelling journey.
I invite you to follow along with the Chronicles of a Taleweaver.
